我喜欢的音乐

This is also a writing homework of one of our students. Thanks her for sharing her views on music with us.

在音乐方面我一直都没什么自信，唱歌很难听，朋友们也经常开玩笑说听我唱歌让他们觉得耳朵疼，而且我也不会什么乐器，但是我却很喜欢听音乐，而且什么样的音乐我都愿意尝试。不过听音乐的时候我一般看当时的心情，比如说如果我在锻炼身体的话我喜欢听很快的、很有快节奏的音乐，这些音乐可以激励我锻炼身体。如果我比较累或者在家里休息，我喜欢听一些不太吵、不太闹的音乐，这样的音乐可以让我放松，帮我减轻压力。

我最近在听一个乐队的音乐，他们的名字叫Cale，他们的音乐是“新拉丁－弗拉门戈节奏加上流行电子元素”。我也很喜欢一个英国的乐队，叫The Temper Trap，我觉得他们的音乐也不错。

我当然也喜欢听中国的音乐。我最喜欢的歌手包括周杰伦、王力宏、孙楠和羽泉。我特别喜欢王力宏的“你不知道的事”和“唯一”，我也非常喜欢一首歌叫“至少还有你”，可是我不知道这首歌是谁唱的。

有时候我也喜欢听意大利的歌剧，比如Andrea Bocelli、Pavarotti等等。所以我还算是有点浪漫？哈哈~~

在澳大利亚，年轻人习惯在酒吧与人社交，同时听现场演出。澳大利亚有很多乐队都是先在小酒吧被发现然后变成明星的。现在我不太清楚哪些乐队是最火的，但是之前“Powderfinger”非常受欢迎。

Notes：

“虽然suī rán ……但是dàn shì ……” means” although……”, 虽然means “although”, 但是means “but”, however in Chinese, 虽然and 但是are often used in combination to indicate the admission of a certain fact then turning to the main idea. 虽然occurs in the subordinate clause，但是in the main clause.

Tips：

1) 但是can be changed into 但dàn or 可是kě shì or 不过bú guò.

2) 虽然can be used either before or after the subject of the subordinate clause, but 但是is often used before the subject of the main clause.

3) 虽然and 但是are generally used in pairs. But when adversative meaning is not particularly emphasized, 但是is often used alone in the main clause. In the case of the main clause preceding the subordinate, one can only use 虽然in the subordinate clause. 但是can never be used at the same time in the main clause. For example:

他不知道今天有聚会，但是他来了。
tā bù zhī dào jīn tiān yǒu jù huì ，dàn shì tā lái le 。
He didn’t know we have a party today, but he came.

他来上班了，虽然他病了。
tā lái shàng bān le ， suī rán tā bìng le 。
Although he was sick, he still came to work.

Examples:

他虽然年轻，不过他很有经验。
tā suī rán nián qīng ，bú guò tā hěn yǒu jīng yàn 。
Young though he is, he is quite experienced.

虽然他很努力，但他考试没有及格。
suī rán tā hěn nǔ lì ， dàn tā kǎo shì méi yǒu jí gé 。
Although he worked hard, he failed in the exam.

虽然她很喜欢这件裙子，但是她买不起。
suī rán tā hěn xǐ huan zhè jiàn qún zi，dàn shì tā mǎi bù qǐ 。
Although she likes this dress very much, she can’t afford it.

我对同性恋的看法

This is a writing homework of one of our students. She is Australian and she wants to talk about legalising gay marriage in Australia. Thanks her for sharing her views with us.

按照澳大利亚的法律，澳大利亚不允许同性恋结婚。澳大利亚总理说，目前她也不支持同性恋婚姻合法化。可是澳洲政府承认同居的同性恋者的权利，他们的权利跟同居异性夫妇一样。她还说，澳洲政府已经采取措施，争取更平等地对待同性恋。

同性恋维权人士呼吁澳大利亚所有的同性恋者应该挺身而出，为自己的权益与幸福而奋斗。他们打算举行同性恋游行来争取澳大利亚政府对同性恋的正义与平等。

澳大利亚算是一个自由民主的国家，可是同性恋者争取平等的权益却是困难重重。很多政治家因怕选民反对而不愿意为平等的婚姻法案投下赞成票。

我支持同性恋者继续尝试消除别人对他们的歧视，可是我也知道澳大利亚的同性恋者想要争取平等的权益还需要一个漫长而艰辛的过程。但是澳大利亚社会在这方面比起其他国家仍然算是有长足的进步。

每年同性恋者都会在Sydney举办狂欢节（Mardi Gras Festival)向人们展示同性恋者的自豪。每年都有超过1万人参加，还包括130多辆花车。每年的游行都有一个主题，参加游行的人会根据主题打扮自己，也会用亮片、羽毛和多彩的衣服装扮自己。我从来没去看过，可是从电视里能看到这是一个非常精彩、非常有意思的的活动。

Notes

In Chinese, we use “xiān … … rán hòu … … ” to indicate the sequence of two events.

Common mistakes

1) 先is often used before the subject by mistake, this is mainly because of the English order.

E.g.

先我回家，然后我去酒吧。

xiān wǒ huí jiā ， rán hòu wǒ qù jiǔ bā 。
First I’ll go home, and then I’ll go to the bar.

Tips

1) “先” is often used after the subject of this sentence.

2）When there is a subject in the second clause，“然后”should go before the subject.

Examples

我先到中国，然后开始学习汉语。

Wǒ xiān dào zhōngguó，rán hòu kāi shǐ xuéxí hànyǔ。
First I’ll go to China, and then start learning Chinese.

他先回家，然后去健身房。

Tā xiān huí jiā，rán hòu qù jiàn shēn fáng 。
First he’ll go home, and then go to the gym.

你先走，然后我再走。

Nǐ xiān zǒu，rán hòu wǒ zài zǒu。
You go first, and then I’ll follow.

你们先吃饭，然后我再去找你们。

Nǐ men xiān chī fàn，rán hòu wǒ zài qù zhǎo nǐ men。
You eat first, and then I’ll join you.

师生一起闹元宵

2月17日是中国的传统节日“元宵节”，按照传统，这一天要赏花灯、猜灯谜、吃元宵。在AM学校里的学生们都很喜欢中国的传统节日，今天也不例外。来自澳大利亚的艾玛同学今天下午为学校里的老师和同学们带来了一个元宵礼盒。很多学生是第一次见到元宵，所以都对它产生了浓厚的兴趣，想尝尝它的味道。于是，大家一起，老师们煮好元宵，同学们在课间休息的时候，坐在前面的沙发上，一起一边吃元宵，一边聊中国的文化。

有的学生特别喜欢黑芝麻味儿的，有的学生喜欢吃花生味儿的，也有的学生吃完了一碗还想再吃一碗。不过，也有的学生不太喜欢元宵又甜又腻的口感，看到煮好的元宵就打消了品尝的念头了。吃完元宵后，大家在一片欢声笑语中，又开始汉语的学习。

在这样的一个很小的活动中，学生们不但品味了地道的汤圆，而且也交流了感情，练习了口语。大家都纷纷表示，希望以后可以有更多这样的机会，既有利于交流文化和思想，拉近大家之间的距离，也对提高汉语水平有好处。
